The Patient Activation Network Podcast is live at the 2017 Planetree International Conference on Patient-Centered Care. Our next guest is Dauryne Shaffer, RN, MSN, CCRN. Dauryne is a nurse educator at the Department of Surgery, VTE Collaborative at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dauryne has worked as a nurse for more than 30 years. Initially, she came to Johns Hopkins as a new graduate in the Surgical Intensive Care unit. She moved up the ladder orienting new staff and running charge. Dauryne went back for my masters in nursing and transitioned to the role of nurse educator in the department of surgery.
Dauryne began working with the Venous Thromboembolism collaborative about 4 years ago. The collaborative received a contract looking at how to impact patient refusal of their VTE medications utilizing a program developed with input from actual patients. Dauryne continues to be active in all three rolls and is always looking for opportunities to assist with educational needs whether staff or patients.

My 98 year old mother just got
diagnosed with extensive DVT(s)
bilateral legs the right groin to knee
& the left groin to ankle. She lives at home with caregivers and family assistance. We meet with her primary doctor this week. I need information
more then anything right now as a caregiver of a senior parent living with
blood clots. Thanks for your video.
